Requirements for Provisional Licensure

Psychological Assistant (Post-Doctoral Supervised Experience)

Provisional licensure as a Psychological Assistant is required to complete post-doctoral supervised experience in Nevada. See NRS 641.226(1) and NAC 641.151(1).

To qualify for provisional licensure as a Psychological Assistant, an applicant must have graduated from a doctoral program that is:

  • APA-accredited, or

  • Deemed by the Board to be substantially equivalent to an APA-accredited program.

If an applicant graduated from a doctoral program that is not APA-accredited, the application must be reviewed through the Board’s Application Tracking Equivalency and Mobility (ATEAM) process. ATEAM reviews are conducted on an applicant-by-applicant, case-by-case basis to determine whether the doctoral program meets Nevada’s educational requirements set forth in NAC 641.062.

NAC 641.062 includes, among other requirements, that the doctoral program satisfy Nevada’s residency requirement, which requires at least one year (or the equivalent) of full-time, in-residence study.

Applicants seeking provisional licensure as a Psychological Assistant who graduated from a non-APA-accredited doctoral program are strongly encouraged to review the educational requirements of NAC 641.062 with their doctoral program prior to submitting an application.

ASPPB PLUS Application

To support a smooth transition between Provisional Licensure as a Psychological Intern, Provisional Licensure as a Psychological Assistant, and eventual Licensure as a Psychologist in Nevada, the Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners utilizes the ASPPB Psychology Licensure Universal System (PLUS) to verify training and education for applicants at all levels.

  • The application fee is $150 and is non-refundable.

  • All applicants should review the Board’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page prior to submitting an application, as it outlines the education and training requirements.

Option 1: Online Application (Preferred)

Submit the Online Application for Provisional Licensure as a Psychological Intern or Psychological Assistant.

Option 2: Paper Application (Mail-In)

Complete the Application for Provisional Licensure as a Psychological Intern or Psychological Assistant (PDF) and mail it to the Board Office along with a $150 non-refundable application fee (check payable to the Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners).

After You Apply

Once your application is received, the Board Office will email you with:

  • Confirmation of receipt, and

  • Instructions for the next required steps, including an invitation to complete the PLUS application.
